Autódromo Internacional do Algarve hosts Formula One and Moto GP
Atelier do Sul salutes Paulo Pinheiro, the founder, CEO and track designer of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA) – A champion of motorsport in Portugal. Paulo actually drew up the original blueprints for the racetrack and now his dedication and vision has finally paid off with the Autódromo securing both the Heineken Formula One Grand Prix (23rd October) and following that in the slipstream will be the Moto Grand Prix final (22nd November), the Formula One of motorbike racing. Both events are major international sporting fixtures and a coup for the Algarve and Portugal.
Paulo Pinheiro takes the podium and a Jeroboam of champagne for this remarkable achievement, as it will bring a much-needed boost to tourism in the region, which has felt the impact of recent travel restrictions. Beyond the physical spectators at the track, the global audience for the races will greatly assist long term recovery with TV coverage reported to be over 471 million viewers for the Formula One last year.
