We have received many very positive comments from Almancil residents, for having given such an innovative facelift to an eyesore, located right at the main entrance to Almancil and the Golden Triangle, without doubt Portugal’s most important residential tourism region. Following Fred Phillips’s interview in the Algarve Resident re BREXIT and the subsequent contact by L’Agence France Press, Jerôme Pin, their correspondent in Portugal, travelled from Lisbon to Atelier do Sul to conduct a short TV interview with Fred, as part of a their BREXIT report, released just 2 daysbefore the vote and, in Jerôme’s own words “…. was well broadcast in France, UK and USA”. The recent opening of the NOVA ARCADA Shopping Mall in Braga, located north of Oporto, hailed the return of Atelier do Sul Communication Design to the national shopping centre arena that has been mainly stagnant since the worldwide financial crisis clicked into gear, in the latter part of the last decade. Until then Atelier do Sul had completed more major shopping centre sign design projects in Portugal than any other communication design practice, their first major win having been for the first project of its kind in Portugal, in the early nineties, SONAE’s CascaiShopping. The NOVA ARCADA project was lead and coordinated by senior designer and partner André Phillips who commented; After a long break in the opening of new shopping centres in Portugal, it was great to have won the design tender for yet another landmark project, and to work again with SONAE (who will manage the shopping) and also PRAGMA (Shell-work Management).
